How to Convert iPhone HEIC Photos to a Single PDF
Photographing paperwork with an iPhone is quick, but uploading the pictures often fails because the format is HEIC. This guide explains the format, how to turn several photos into one PDF in your browser, and what to check before you send it.

Open HEIC to PDF ConverterQuick answer: how do I turn iPhone photos into one PDF?
- 1
Get the photos onto the device you are using.
On an iPhone, open the converter in Safari and pick from your library; on a computer, copy or AirDrop the .heic files first.
- 2
Add them to the HEIC to PDF Converter.
Drop in the .heic or .heif files and switch on the option to combine them into one PDF.
- 3
Convert and download.
Each photo becomes one page, in the order shown in the list.
- 4
Open the PDF and check order and orientation.
Fix anything sideways or out of sequence before you send it.
What is HEIC, and why do uploads fail?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default in many setups because it stores images in less space than JPG. The trouble is compatibility. Some Windows apps, older Android phones, websites and application forms do not recognise it, so they refuse the upload or show a blank thumbnail.
A PDF solves this because practically every device and portal can open one. If a form asks for a PDF or JPG and you only have HEIC photos, converting to a PDF is a direct route.
HEIC vs JPG: should I change my camera format?
On an iPhone, go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats. "High Efficiency" saves new photos as HEIC; "Most Compatible" saves them as JPG. Switching affects only photos you take afterwards, not the ones already in your library.
High Efficiency gives smaller files, which is helpful if your storage is tight. Most Compatible avoids conversion problems, which is helpful if you often upload photos to forms or share with people on other platforms. If you photograph documents regularly, Most Compatible is a reasonable choice. Neither setting is wrong, and you can convert HEIC later whenever you need to.
Menu names can differ slightly between iOS versions. If you cannot find the setting, search Settings for "Formats".
How do I convert HEIC to PDF step by step?
- 1
Open the converter.
Go to the HEIC to PDF Converter in your browser.
- 2
Add your photos.
Drag and drop, or browse. Both .heic and .heif files are accepted.
- 3
Choose the output.
Combine everything into one PDF with one photo per page, or convert each photo to its own PDF.
- 4
Convert and save.
Download the PDF. The first conversion may take a few seconds longer because the HEIC decoder loads the first time it is used.
This converter runs entirely in your browser, so your photos stay on your device and are not uploaded. The photos are converted to high-quality JPEG before going into the PDF, so one small lossy step is involved; keep your original HEIC files if you need exact originals.
How do I get the pages in the right order?
The PDF follows the order of the list in the converter, which is usually the order you added the files. Photos taken in sequence are normally named in sequence, but a few selected in a different order can end up shuffled. Check the list before converting rather than after.
If you spot a mistake afterwards, you do not need to start over: Organize PDF lets you move, delete or rotate individual pages in the finished file. For multi-page paperwork, photographing the pages in order and adding them in one go is the simplest approach.
Why are some pages sideways, and how do I fix them?
iPhones record how the phone was held when the photo was taken. Most apps respect this, but if a page looks rotated, the cause is often the orientation information being interpreted differently. Always open the finished PDF and scroll through every page rather than trusting the thumbnail.
If a page is wrong, use Rotate PDF Pages to turn it, then save again. To avoid the problem, hold the phone steady, keep it directly above the page and avoid shadows, so that the text is easy to read at the end.
- Photograph in good light and fill the frame with the page.
- Keep the phone parallel to the page to avoid slanted edges.
- Check that every page is legible when zoomed in.
- Compress the final PDF if a portal rejects its size.
What if the finished PDF is too large?
Phone photos have many megapixels, so a PDF of ten pages can be large. Run it through Compress PDF to reduce size, then check legibility. Compress PDF may use our servers for larger files, where files are processed securely and deleted automatically. If you need to scan documents regularly, the Scan to PDF tool is built for that purpose and may give smaller, cleaner files.
Can I do this directly on my iPhone?
Yes, because the converter is a web page. Open it in Safari, tap to choose files from your photo library, and download the PDF to the Files app. Because processing happens in the browser, there is no app to install, and the photos do not leave the phone.
Older or low-memory phones can struggle with many large photos at once. If the page slows down or stops, convert in smaller batches, for example five pages at a time, and merge the resulting PDFs afterwards with Merge PDF. Closing other apps and tabs also helps.
When you are done, check where the file was saved. Safari usually puts downloads in the Files app under Downloads, from where you can attach it to an email, a message or an upload form. Rename it first with something meaningful, since names like image.pdf are easy to lose.
Frequently asked questions
Can I combine several HEIC photos into one PDF?
Yes. Add the photos and switch on the option to combine them into one PDF. Each photo becomes one page, in list order.
Do I need to convert HEIC to JPG first?
No. The converter reads .heic and .heif files directly and places them in the PDF.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The HEIC to PDF Converter runs in your browser, so the photos stay on your device.
Will the photo quality drop?
Photos are converted to high-quality JPEG before being placed in the PDF, so a small amount of compression is applied. Keep the original HEIC files if you need them unchanged.
Does changing the iPhone camera format convert old photos?
No. The setting affects only new photos. Existing HEIC photos stay as they are until you convert or export them.
Why was the first conversion slower?
The HEIC decoder loads the first time you add a HEIC file. After that, conversions are faster.
