EPUB to PDF: Convert an Ebook and Finish It Free | Tools4PDF
Turn an EPUB ebook into a PDF you can print, share and open anywhere. Learn the conversion step, then compress, merge, crop and number pages free.
EPUB is great for reading on a phone or e-reader. It is not so great when you need to print a chapter, email a book to a classmate, or open a file on a computer that has no ebook app. A PDF fixes all of that: it looks the same on every device and every printer.
This guide shows how to get from an EPUB to a clean, shareable PDF, and then how to polish the result with free browser tools from Tools4PDF. No signup, no software to install for the editing steps.
Why convert EPUB to PDF?
An EPUB is reflowable. The text rearranges itself to fit your screen, which is perfect for reading and awkward for almost everything else. A PDF is fixed-layout, so you get:
Printing: page breaks and margins are set, so what you see is what prints.
Sharing: anyone can open a PDF in a browser, with no ebook reader needed.
Study and review: you can add notes and highlights, pull out chapters and reference page numbers.
Archiving: one stable file that will not change layout when apps update.
A quick note before you start
Only convert ebooks you own or have the right to use, and only DRM-free files. Books locked with copy protection from a store generally cannot be converted, and bypassing that protection is not something to do. Personal manuscripts, public-domain books, course material from your teacher and your own writing are all fine.
Step 1: Convert the EPUB file to PDF
Tools4PDF focuses on working with PDFs, so the EPUB-to-PDF conversion itself happens before you upload anything. You have two easy options:
Use a free ebook manager such as Calibre. Add your EPUB, choose Convert books, pick PDF as the output format, and set the page size (A4 or Letter) and margins before you convert.
Print to PDF from your reader app. If the app or browser you use to open the EPUB has a print option, choose Save as PDF as the printer.
If your ebook is really a web page or an HTML export, the HTML to PDF converter can turn it into a clean, text-based PDF directly. If the book lives in a Word file, use Word to PDF.
Tip: set the page size first. It is much easier to get the layout right during conversion than to fix it afterwards.
Step 2: Check the PDF
Open the new PDF and flip through it before you share it. Look for:
Missing or oversized images
Odd page breaks, such as a chapter heading alone at the bottom of a page
A cover page that is too large or has white borders
Blank pages at the start or end
Most of these are quick to fix with the tools below.

Make the PDF smaller
Ebooks with lots of images can produce large PDFs. Free accounts on Tools4PDF support files up to 15 MB, so if your converted book is bigger than that, run it through Compress PDF first. It cuts the file size while keeping the text readable, which also makes the book easier to email.
Remove blank pages and fix the order
Conversion sometimes leaves a blank page after the cover or between chapters. Use Delete PDF Pages to remove them in a few clicks, and see our guide on how to delete pages from a PDF online for tips on ranges and scattered pages. If chapters landed in the wrong place, Organize PDF shows a visual grid so you can drag pages where they belong.
Tidy the layout
If pages are turned the wrong way, Rotate PDF fixes them and saves the change permanently. If the converter left wide margins, Crop PDF trims them from every page at once, which is handy when you plan to read the book on a small screen.
Add page numbers for printing
Many EPUB conversions do not carry over page numbers, because EPUBs do not really have fixed pages. Add Page Numbers lets you place numbers in any position and format, which makes a printed copy much easier to navigate and cite.
Combine or split books
Have a series saved as separate files? Merge PDF joins them into one document in seconds. Only need one chapter for class? Split PDF pulls out exactly the pages you want.
Step 4: Make the PDF more useful
Once your ebook is a PDF, everything in the PDF toolbox opens up:
Add notes and highlights: use Edit PDF to add text, shapes and comments. Our guide to editing a PDF online for free walks through it.
Copy the text: PDF to Text extracts everything into a plain .txt file you can search and quote.
Make it editable: PDF to Word turns the book back into a Word file if you need to rework a manuscript.
Pull out the pictures: Extract PDF Images saves every embedded image as a ZIP.
Brand your own work: Watermark PDF stamps text across every page, useful for review copies and drafts.
Control who opens it: Protect PDF adds a password before you share a private manuscript.
What if the PDF has scanned pages?
If an ebook was created from scanned images, the text may not be selectable or searchable after conversion. Run it through OCR PDF to recognize the text and make it searchable. Read more in our guide on how to make a scanned PDF searchable.
What if the PDF will not open?
Occasionally a conversion is interrupted and leaves a damaged file. Repair PDF rebuilds it and recovers as many pages as possible. If you made a second version of the book and want to see what changed, Compare PDF shows added and removed text page by page.
Tips for the best EPUB to PDF results
Pick the page size first. A4 or Letter for printing, a smaller custom size for phones and tablets.
Choose readable margins. Very narrow margins look cramped on paper.
Check the cover and images. Fix oversized images at the source if you can.
Compress last. Do your edits first, then reduce the size once, so quality stays high.
Keep the original EPUB. Hold on to it in case you want to convert again with different settings.
Is it safe to use online PDF tools?
Tools4PDF works in your browser, with nothing to install, on Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox. You can read more about how files are handled on the Security page and find extra how-tos in the Guides.
